How to Draw a Piña Colada

If you like Piña Coladas…and drawing with our EverBlend Ultra Art Markers- Set of 144, keep reading and discover five easy steps to follow to create your very own Piña Colada drawing. Before we dive into the steps, let’s first take a second to talk about the fabulous drink that is the Piña Colada. This classic island drink originated in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Bartender Ramón “Monchito” Marrero takes the credit for first mixing up this classic cocktail at the Caribe Hilton in 1954. However, some islanders believe that Puerto Rico’s national drink dates back to the 1800s, from bartender Roberto Cofresí.

Piña Coladas traditionally consist of rum, coconut cream (sometimes substituted with coconut milk), and pineapple juice—served blended or over ice. Piña Coladas make the perfect thirst-quenching drink when relaxing poolside or on a beach. To mix your own Piña Colada up, add the following ingredients to a blender: ½ a cup of coconut cream, ½ a cup of pineapple juice, a cup of ice, and ¼ a cup of white rum; or skip this ingredient to make a (virgin) mocktail the entire family can enjoy! Serve your delicious Piña Coladas in a pineapple, with a slice of pineapple and cherry to garnish. Treat yourself to this tasty beverage as a reward for finishing your Piña Colada EverBlend Marker drawing!

5 Steps to Drawing a Piña Colada

step 1

Step 1

Using YG28 Aniseed Green, Y39 White Quartz, YR19 Cream Pearl, and BR66 Eggnog, paint the contents of the glass, as well as the foam section of the cocktail. Apply the lightest shade first, which in this case is Y39 White Quartz. Be sure to colour the entire beverage to make blending effortless. Next, use YG28 Aniseed Green and YR19 Cream Pearl to add more depth to your drink. Then, add volume to the glass with BR66 Eggnog. Use BL00 Blender to blend your colours to create noticeably smooth transitions.

Fun Fact:
July 10th is National Piña Colada Day in the United States!

step 2

Step 2

Use B29 Pastel Blue to add more depth to the glass, this will also act as your mid-tone to blend the next set of blue tones. Next, address the glass, its stem and rim using B17 Baby Blue, B37 Carolina Blue, and B25 Butterfly Blue. Add a straw to your glass, then use the following shades to colour it: PB09 Periwinkle, PB06 Lavender, and PB16 Sweet Pea Purple. The purple tones of the straw will complement the yellow under-tone of the Piña Colada.

step 3

Step 3

Time to add the pineapple garnish! Use YG28 Aniseed Green to colour the entire pineapple wedge, this will act as your mid-tone. Next, using Y39 White Quartz, Y15 Sapphire Yellow, and BR66 Eggnog, colour the pineapple pulp. Use BR66 Eggnog, BR34 Light Clay Brown, BR41 Goldstone Red, YR15 Marmalade Orange, YR04 Cheddar Orange, and YG06 Frog Green to bring the pineapple peel to life!

Fun Fact:
Piña means pineapple and colada means strained in the Spanish language.

step 4

Step 4

Colour the leaves of the garnish with YG28 Aniseed Green. Then, colour the tips of the leaves with Y15 Sapphire Yellow. Use YG06 Frog Green to blend your colours. Add any additional desired shadows or texture to your leaves with YG04 Apple Green and B17 Baby Blue.

Fun Fact:
The song “Escape (The Piña Colada Song)” by Rupert Holmes, featured in blockbusters like “Shrek” and “Guardians of the Galaxy,” first put this cocktail on the world map in 1979.

step 5

Step 5

It wouldn’t be a Piña Colada without a cherry on top! To colour your cherry, start with YR15 Marmalade Orange, then use colours R03 Poppy Red, R23 Sea Urchin Red, and R21 Ruby Red to add depth. Use the same colours to colour your cherry’s stem. Add B25 Butterfly Blue to create shadows on the cherry’s stick and base. For finishing touches: use the purple shades (listed in Step 2) to create any additional shadows to the glass, the leaves, and the cherry stem.
