What are good drawing pencil(s)? A good drawing pencil will be sturdy, versatile, and have quality graphite inside. Our graphite pencils are offered in a range of lead hardness from high H for clean, thin lines to high B for dark, thick lines. Also, our premium drawing pencil has a size and shape that allows for laying down precise lines in a controlled manner.

How are drawing pencil(s) numbered? All drawing pencils set are labelled on a scale from H pencils to B pencils. The H scale indicates a harder lead, or a lead made of a higher degree of clay than graphite. Whereas, the B scale indicates a softer lead made of a higher amount of graphite than clay. H pencils will create a thinner, lighter line that is less susceptible to smudging, while a B pencil will make a broader, darker line that is easier to smudge. The degree of hardness is indicated by an increasing number scale with the mid range designated by a set of letters - H, F, HB and B.

What drawing pencil(s) should I use? As an artist, you should use a drawing pencil set with a range of hardness grades that suit your drawing style. The most common pencil grades would be the middle range from medium hard to medium soft. Our mid range pencils offer the most flexibility when choosing a line thickness and degree of colour.

Our drawing pencil set offers pencils from 6B to 4H in hardness. The dense leads resist breaking and come pre-sharpened for ease of use. Our pencils can be purchased alone or bundled with blenders, erasers and other drawing accessories. Shop this category for a  wide selection of drawing tools with all techniques in mind.
